Hergest Lee, Powys

Hergest Lee, Powys

If you are a design and craft obsessive who also has a deep appreciation for undulating hills and mid-century feels, our latest Piglet Stays offering is a must-see!

Founded and designed by carpenter Paul Gent in March 2020, Hergest Lee consists of a contemporary, architecturally-designed cabin and lean-to situated in the beautiful landscape of rural Wales: the rather other-worldly-sounding hamlet of Burlingjobb, to be precise.

Designed to mimic the curves of the surrounding Welsh hills, all of the interior fittings in both the cabin and the lean-to have been hand-crafted by Paul - from the kitchen units and cupboards to the staircases, and beds. Both of the accommodations are truly a mid-century-lovers haven, with the cabin being the lighter and brighter cousin to the darker, more moody lean-to with its black stained cedar that runs throughout.

Both locations are extremely cosy and inviting, with lots of rustic knick knacks on the shelves to make you feel like you’re at home. Of course, being part of our Piglet Stays network, you can expect to experience beautiful Piglet in Bed linen bedding and throws throughout Hergest Lee, meaning your opportunity to experience the beauty of nature and its elements will continue even as you drift off to sleep.

One thing we really love about Hergest Lee is that Paul has also taken environmental considerations very seriously when building the cedarwood designs, using local cedar from a nearby Welsh saw mill, sustainable heating in the form of infrared panels on the ceiling, and eco-friendly insulation.

Hanter HillHanter Hill

Paul and his wife Rachael have taken great care in putting together a detailed welcome pack that lists everything that there is to see and do in the local area. You’ll definitely want to take plenty of walks as the area is brimming with wildlife and spots of natural beauty, including places where you can go wild swimming. The walk to the top of the impressive Hanter Hill opposite the cabin takes around 1.5-2hrs, with the views of the black mountains and Brecon Beacons from the top on a clear day. If you’re not so lucky with the weather, there is an abundance of local pubs and cafes, otherwise pretty Hay-on-Wye, famed for the literary festival, is only a 25-minute drive away.
