A few months back, while aimlessly scrolling on TikTok one evening, I stumbled across a video featuring a montage of beautiful homes that looked like they'd been taken straight out of a Nancy Meyers movie. The creator had come up with a name to string all of these homes - featuring jute rugs, linen curtains blowing in the breeze, rustic wood textures, large marble fireplaces, plush throws over the backs of sofas - together. She'd called it: Coastal Grandmother.

I quickly realised Coastal Grandmother perfectly described an aesthetic that I had subconsciously always returned to over the years, despite trying on different looks for size during that time. On reflection, Coastal Grandmother had quietly and yet confidently out-lived the micro trends of years past, think: industrial luxe, millennial pink, the all-grey-everything year of 2016 - and it was due to the fact it had timelessness at its core. This style - arguably heavily inspired by Mediterranean homes where breathable fabrics, rustic tiles and olive green tones are certainly nothing new - celebrates investing in good quality pieces that allow the beauty of the material from which they're made to shine through.
We've collated some of our favourite pieces below which we believe adhere to the Coastal Grandmother style or rather, mindset. More than just a trend to replicate in your own home, Coastal Grandmother describes a commitment to both being comfortable and to shopping slow and sustainably, and that is why it can never go out of fashion.
