Off the back of her recent debut book launch 'Tucking In', we sat down with cook and friend of Piglet in Bed, Sophie Wyburd to chat all things home comfort. Sophie divulges her at-home must-haves, who her dream dining table guest is, and the top Piglet pieces on her wishlist. P.s - we can attest the Chipotle Vodka Gnocchi Bake within her comfort-filled book is just delicious.
What does your home mean to you?
Home is my favourite place in the world! It means being snuggled with my partner and my cat in the living room, with candles lit and blankets over our laps, surrounded by objects that mean something to me and with a bowl of something comforting to eat on my lap.
What's one thing in your home you couldn't live without?
I couldn't live without my plate collection, or at least I wouldn't want to. They've been painstakingly collected over the years in markets, charity shops and on eBay, and they really make my table feel like mine.
In a nutshell, how would you summarise your interior style/taste?
I would say my style is a mix of mid-century modern and more eclectic Granny farmhouse. I like tonal colours, fun textures, and mismatched objects, mostly found in antique shops and online.
Are you a morning lark or a night owl?
I would say I am a morning lark. I like getting tucked into bed early with a book and a cup of mint tea and waking up early to seize the day.
If you could cook for anyone who has ever existed, who would it be?
I would really like to cook for Nigella Lawson one day, the queen of simple comfort food.
If you had to choose, what would your ultimate comfort food be?
Pie and mash is the ultimate comfort food for me. A chicken pie like the one my mum used to make with leeks and ham, with mash on the side and braised greens always makes me feel amazing.
